Court halts Cape Town evictions
The City of Cape Town will no longer be allowed to evict people from their homes. Yesterday the High Court ruled in favour of the South African Human Rights Commission. The city was dragged to the courts following a video footage showing the eviction of Bulelani Qolani dragged naked out of his shack in Khayelitsha last month. The city has been ordered to return all building materials and pay R2,000 to those claiming compensation. Human Rights Commissioner Chris Nissen speaks more on this.
