Residents in east India shocked when wild elephant takes a stroll along town highway

A wild elephant left its normal forest habitat to stroll through an urban neighbourhood in south-east India, drawing the attention of many local people.

The incident took place in the early morning of August 24, in Baripada town of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha.

Reportedly an elephant left its herd of and was seen walking the highway at NH 18 in Darogadahi Golai. Forest officials were called to see off the elephant before it strayed further into the town of Baripada.

Local people however gathered to watch the elephant's progress as it moved along the highway, while still keeping a wary distance from the giant animal.
