US suspends extradition treaty with Hong Kong over city’s national security law

The US State Department halted three of its bilateral agreements with Hong Kong including an extradition treaty with the city. The move announced on August 19, 2020, was the latest sign of deteriorating US-China relations in the weeks since Beijing imposed a national security law on Hong Kong.
