A significant decrease in the number of crimes committed during the first quarter of the year. Police Minister Bheki Cele presented the quarterly crime statistics, a short while ago. These stats reflect the crime levels during the COVID-19 Lockdown. Cele says the first quarter crime stats show a major reduction in most crime categories, compared to the same period last year. He says this has never happened before. Cele says maintaining visibility during the COVID-19 response has come at a high cost. He says over fourteen-thousand police officers have tested positive for COVID-19, whole 163 have succumbed to the virus.
