Former IGP Tan Sri Rahim Noor speaks out against hudud
  • 4 years ago
Former IGP Tan Sri Rahim Noor described PAS' president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's tabling a private member's bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act as a tactic to push for hudud. He said it was dangerous because it caused unease among the non-Muslims and voiced concern over its impact on Sabah and Sarawak which has a sizeable non-Muslim bumiputera population. He said if the punishments under the existing civil criminal law are not severe enough, these can always be enhanced. There is no need for hudud, which is another criminal jurisprudence system.
