Star2.com Exclusive: Angels In Malaysia – A Vox Pop On HIV/AIDS Awareness

Star2.com interviewed the audience at the Malaysian staging of "Angels In America", an award-winning theatre play that examines AIDS and homosexuality in the US in the 1980s, to see if what happened there 30 years ago is still happening here today.

"Angels In America" was written by Tony Kushner and was first staged in two parts – "Millennium Approaches" premièred in 1991 in San Francisco, and "Perestroika" premièred in Los Angeles in 1992. Collectively, the plays have won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, two Tony Awards for Best Play, and two Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Play.

In 2003, HBO created a miniseries version of the play with an all-star cast, including Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Patrick Wilson, Mary-Louise Parker, Emma Thompson, Justin Kirk, Jeffrey Wright and Ben Shenkman. The TV special won five Golden Globes and 11 Emmys (out of its 21 nominated categories).
