A group of 99 turtles rescued from animal smuggling cases in China were set free in the southern island province of Hainan on August 9 2020. Authorities said 29 of the reptiles were found in connection with a criminal case in the eastern Jiangsu province, where investigators found more than 200 live turtles. Chinese officials said the other turtles found in Jiangsu will be released after they are cared for and healthy enough to survive in the wild.
