World Elephant Day is observed on August 12 annually to create awareness about the magnificent creatures. The day is to highlight the issues faced by elephants in the wild and in captivity. The observance encourages protection of the jumbos in their natural habitat. World Elephant Day came into existence in 2011 with the initiative of two Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims & Michael Clark of Canazwest Pictures and also Sivaporn Dardarananda. World Elephant Day 2020 was launched on August 12, 2012, to bring attention to the plight of Asian and African elephants. On World Elephant Day 2020, let’s pledge to protect the jumbos.
