Parasitoid wasp chews out of caterpillar egg as males wait outside

This is the gruesome moment a parasitoid wasp chewed its way out of a caterpillar's egg shell while two males waited outside to mate.

The incredibly rare video was taken using a microscope by insect enthusiast Eva Wiedeman in Sullivan, Missouri.

She said: "While the female parasite was making its way out, I saw a larva moving in the egg nearby. It was too cool."

Parasitoid wasps lay eggs on bodies of other insects which causes the host's death sooner or later.
