A Brazilian expert has warned that continued deforestation of the Amazon rainforest could trigger the spread of a new infectious disease.
The health expert, Gonzalo Vecina said Wednesday, that any damage to the Amazon would not only bring environmental problems, but could also start a new epidemic.
He said there are many viruses in the forest, and we can't be sure if next infection is already on the way, due to the massive destruction that has already happened so far.
According to Brazil's National Space Research Institute, the destruction in the first half of this year increased by 25 percent from the same period last year.
