132년 전 프랑스 대통령이 고종에게 선물한 도자기 첫 공개

In the late 19th century, France gave a ceramic case to Korea's Joseon dynasty to commemorate the forging of their diplomatic ties.
From Wednesday, people can visit the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul to see that and 40 other items,.. which have yet to been seen by the public.
Jang Tae-hyun reports.
For the first time in one-hundred-32 years, this golden ceramic vase, called 'Salamis', is on display to the public.
In 1886, Joseon and France signed a treaty for amity, commerce, and navigation.
To commemorate these diplomatic relations, the French president at the time gave 'Salamis' to Joseon in 1888.
This was the first time Joseon received diplomatic ceramic gifts from the West.
While ceramics can be used as ornaments, they can also mirror society from a certain point in time.
Until recently, western-style imported ceramics used by the Joseon royal court were seen as extravagant.
But research has found that the European ceramics owned by the royal family during the Joseon period served as evidence of efforts to seek diplomatic solutions in a period of rapid transition.
"After Joseon opened its ports to foreign countries, Western diplomats started living here, built western buildings and imported tableware, sanitary facilities and ceramics. Visitors can see ceramics that show Joseon's foreign relations."
This exhibition will be held from July 29th to October 4th and people can visit for free.
Some four-hundred items are on display... including 40 western-style porcelain examples which are to be revealed to the public for the first time.
Every hour, one-hundred people who booked online and 30 visitors without reservations can enter.
English descriptions are provided for any non-Korean speakers who visit the exhibition.
The National Palace Museum of Korea is also planning to offer online content for those who can't visit due to COVID-19.
