Pakistan Senate seeks highest civilian award for separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani

Pakistan’s Senate on Monday passed a resolution to award its highest civilian honour ‘Nishaan-e-Pakistan’ to Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. A resolution was passed by Pakistan's upper house on Monday, asking the government to confer the country’s highest civilian award on separatist leader and former Hurriyat Conference chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani. As per reports, the resolution also sought inclusion of Geelani’s life story in the school curriculum. The resolution also asked the Pakistan government to name an engineering university in Islamabad after Geelani. The resolution seeking highest civilian award comes days after Syed Ali Shah Geelani announced his resignation from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
