The U.S. and its 42 allies have called for immediate action on halting North Korea from importing additional petroleum this year.
According to the UN Security Council committee, Pyeongyang imported more than 1-point-6 million barrels of petroleum until May this year through over 56 illicit ship-to-ship transfers.
That's more than triple the amount of barrels allowed under UN sanctions, which limits the amount to 500-thousand barrels of oil per year.
The countries emphasized that all member states must be informed that oil for Pyeongyang exceeded the cap and they should immediately cease selling, supplying, or transferring products to North Korea for the rest of the year.
