A Canadian tourist is being hunted by police after allegedly hitting a paramedic with an oxygen tank while being treated at the scene of a motorcycle accident.

Norman Peter, 57, was found flailing on the road after his bike collided with a car in Loei, northeastern Thailand on Wednesday morning (July 22).

He had suffered a broken leg but allegedly went berserk while he was being treated in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

He was reportedly ranting at the rescuers before allegedly grabbing the oxygen tank and hitting one of the team with it then trashing other pieces of equipment.

The injured paramedic composed himself and told the Canadian to calm down before they reached the hospital.

The injured rescue worker Natthapol Khantakhiri, 22, reported the incident to police as he wanted the Canadian to pay for the damage to the vehicle.

He said: "I have no idea about what made him become so furious but his behaviour is unacceptable.

"I want the police to arrest him and make him pay for the damage to the emergency vehicle because this is something that is used to save lives, so nobody should suffer because of the damage.''

Police Colonel Phakpoom Pitsamai said officers had gathered the personal information of the suspect and will find him.

He said: "We know his name and nationality already and will use it to find him and interrogate him about the incident."
