Daring drain pipe rescue gets one-day-old elephant calf reunited with mother in southern India

Forest officials have rescued a one-day-old elephant calf that was stranded inside drainage at a coffee plantation in southern India's Karnataka.
The incident took at Srimangala in Virajpet of Kodagu district on July 22.
According to the reports, the calf was separated from the mother in Kutta village and accidentally stumbled into the drainage dug deep in the coffee plantation.
On spotting the calf, the locals alerted the forest department officials.
Range Forest Officer (RFO) Veerendra Maribasannvar and Deputy Range Forest Officer Harish and other forest officials rushed to the spot to rescue the baby elephant.
The video shows the baby elephant being rescued from a drain inside the coffee plantation premises.
The forest officials can be seen helping the elephant calf to walk and guiding the baby to the mother.
Luckily, the panicked mother had traced its calf and had reached the plantation.
She had failed to rescue the calf owing to the depth of the drainage, and the calf was far away from her reach.
According to the officials, the mother stood patiently as the forest officials got down into the pit and lifted the calf out of it.
The rescued calf was medically administered by the veterinarians present at the spot.
Following this, the baby elephant was guided back to its mother, who immediately dashed towards the calf.
The reunited duo happily walked back into the forest range.
