US students face police murder trial in Rome

The trial of two US students accused of the murder of a police officer during a failed drug bust last year continues in Rome. The slain officer's partner Andrea Varriale claims his colleague Mario Cerciello Rega was killed by Finnegan Lee Elder in an unprovoked nighttime attack on 26 July, 2019 after the plain clothed officers approached the Americans, who had earlier tried to buy drugs.
