[#HRC44] Freedom of Expression in Crisis: Assessing Trends with UN Special Rapporteur David Kaye

ARTICLE 19, together with the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations in Geneva, held a virtual side event to the 44th Session of the Human Rights Council on 16 July 2020.

As UN Special Rapporteur David Kaye's term as mandate holder comes to a close, our event explores how threats to freedom of expression have evolved over the course of his mandate and reflects on persistent challenges requiring action from the international community, including on media freedom and journalism , surveillance, and the role of social media companies. The event celebrates the mandate’s vital contribution to the promotion and protection of the right, online and offline.
