Desperate residents tried to salvage a truck that was washed away during a storm in the Philippines.

The vehicle was on the banks of the river which started to swell during heavy rain in Cagayan de Oro province on July 12.

Onlooker Vincent Elpede said he heard loud shouts outside the house and saw several neighbours swimming towards the drifting truck.

He said: "At first, I thought somebody was drowning so I quickly went out to check. But they told me they were after that it was a truck that was washed away by the river."

Vincent and his neighbours tried to use a digger to reach the vehicle but they eventually gave up and left the truck to the mercy of nature.
