The United States is warning again that Washington could respond with sanctions against Chinese officials and enterprises involved in coercion in the South China Sea.
The comments from U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia, David Stilwell, on Tuesday come a day after the U.S. rejected China's claims to offshore resources in most of the South China Sea as "completely unlawful".
Stilwell added the tougher U.S. position means Washington will no longer stay neutral on maritime issues.
China's foreign ministry condemned the comments,... saying it "destroys regional peace and stability."
