Tail is important to lizard but most lizard will not die if they lose their tail. They use this strategy as their last resort to save themselves. Their tail contain fat which is important for lizards. This fat helps them to survive when they don't get adequate food. Without their tail the lizard can be targeted by fellow lizard and by other predators because they will appear small. Not all lizard can regrow their tail. These lizards can die if they lose their tail because of bloodloss and these lizards can be targeted by fellow lizards eventually killing them. Komodo dragon is one of those lizards that cannot regrow their tail so their tail is very important to them and they can die if lose their tail because they don't have the gene to regrow their tail. In short, lizards that have the ability to regrow their tail won't die but lizards that cannot regrow their tail can die.
