Myanmar’s commercial tiger and pangolin farms may also fuel endangered species trade
  • 4 years ago
Myanmar has amended wildlife protection laws to allow the commercial farming of tigers, pangolins and other endangered species. Private zoos were given the green light in June 2020 to breed 90 species, including 20 which are endangered or critically endangered. Myanmar forestry officials touted the new regulations as a way to reduce poaching and illegal breeding of wild animals, but conservationists say in the long term the change could fuel market demand for wildlife products.
