EU "중국 '홍콩보안법' 대응 준비할 것"

Responding to China's controversial national security law on Hong Kong,... the European Union has agreed to take joint measures.
On Monday, the 27 nations voiced support for the move,... which they explained will help support Hong Kong's autonomy and civil society.

EU member-states are set to devise coordinated action to respond to China's move to tighten its grip on Hong Kong.
That's according to the EU's foreign affairs chief, who explained Monday that members of the bloc are troubled by the turn of events.
"We're going to study the situation in Hong Kong. The law passed by the Chinese authorities is more draconian than expected and member states will raise their position and concerns about the situation there."
The remarks came following a meeting with the foreign ministers of the 27 member-states to discuss global issues, including Hong Kong's new national security law.
Borrell also explained that the countermeasures would be taken by individual nations and by the EU as a whole.
This could include a ban on the export of equipment such as tear gas that could be used by police against civilians,... as well as granting long-term refugee status to Hong Kong activists.
The EU's joint measures were also backed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. However, she warned against completely cutting off dialogue with Beijing.
At a press briefing with her Italian counterpart on Monday,... Merkel explained that there's no reason to cut off talks with China.
Despite that, she said it's important the EU finds a common policy towards Beijing,... which passed such a controversial law despite almost universal global condemnation.
