Indian airport officials seize $1 million worth of gold smuggled in household items

Customs officers at an airport have seized at least 30 kilograms of gold worth around $1 million USD from a piece of personal baggage in southern India's Kerala.

The seize took place at Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on July 4.

According to reports, the parcel was addressed to the UAE consulate office and reached the airport in a cargo flight and was investigated by customs officers.

The video shows several officials breaking open the consignment using a hammer and other tools.

Following which, they haul out bars of gold hidden inside several items.

The parcels contained household items such as frames and door handles, where the gold was stuffed in.

One person has been detained for questioning.
