A caring police chief threatened to jail any officers who destroyed a bee hive at their local station.

The creatures sparked concern when they built their home outside the commander's office in Songkhla, southern Thailand.

Footage shows the huge bee hive hanging down from the station's third floor balcony with a note stating the officer's order to keep the hive unharmed.

However, station commander Police Colonel Saksaeng Meesaeng said he did not want to interfere with the bees' nature.

Speaking yesterday (July 2) the police chief said: "The hive has become so much bigger compared to my first day here six months ago and it could have already produced so much honey.

"However, I believed we should let the bees live their lives without interfering with them so I order my subordinates here to stay away from it or else they will be punished."

''Perhaps they will end up in jail themselves if they harm the bees.''
