Jewel On The Choice Humans Must Make About The Pandemic And Mental Health
  • 4 years ago
Singer-songwriter and native Alaskan Jewel can relate to those experiencing anxiety during the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
Now 46, Jewel left her abusive childhood home at 15 and eventually graduated from Michigan’s Interlochen Center for the Arts.
But at 18, she became homeless and lived with mental health conditions like debilitating panic attacks and agoraphobia: a fear of places or situations.
According to HuffPost, Jewel says that over the years, she created a personal toolbox of techniques to help her stay well.
To those struggling in these challenging times, Jewel says human beings have a choice: introspection and rebirth, or suppression and fear.
To introspect, question what thoughts, beliefs, actions, or relationships you want to let go of. What no longer serves you in your life? That’s the death part.
The rebirth is about what new ways of being you want to adopt. Maybe you always wanted to learn to meditate or switch jobs. If so, now's the time to do it!
The other path is suppression, fear, disempowerment, and doubt.

If you can’t let go of things, you hang onto them and fear. When you can’t adopt new ideas, you feel disempowered. Jewel
