A hapless stray dog was rescued after it was impaled at the gate of a house in Chonburi, eastern Thailand.

Animal handlers were called by a concerned local who heard the dog crying in pain on Wednesday afternoon (June 17).

With rain pouring down outside, the pooch is believed to have tried to get inside the property to shelter from the storm. However, it was too big to squeeze its behind through the narrow space.

Rescue workers used a hydraulic cutter to free the brown dog from the gaps in the metal railings.

Resident Methanan Boonprakong said she tried to help the dog but failed.

She said: "I came here after hearing the dog's cries from my house.

"I first tried to pull it out but I could not so I decided to call the rescue team for help."
