A woman was rushed to hospital after being bitten by a centipede as she slept.

The Cambodia worker, named only as Srey, felt something creeping underneath her bed clothes.

She told medics she tried to bat it away with her hand but it bit her thumb, leaving her in unbearable pain.

Srey's shocked husband Tun woke up when he heard his wife scream. He caught the six-inches long centipede from her hand and contacted the rescue team.

When the rescue team arrived the woman appeared to be disorientation and was losing consciousness. The paramedics believed she had suffered an allergic reaction to the centipede's venom.

They rushed her to the hospital and took the centipede that her husband had caught along to show it to the doctor.

The husband said he was already asleep when suddenly his wife screamed woke him up.

He said: "My wife woke me up with a scream and told me that she was bitten by the centipede.

"I thought it was nothing but my wife appeared to be getting worse after she was bitten so I called an ambulance.''

The woman is now in a stable condition after receiving medication.
