Landmark US Supreme Court ruling supports protection for LGBT workers
  • 4 years ago
The US Supreme Court ruled on June 15, 2020, that a federal civil rights law which bars discrimination on the basis of sex also protects gay, lesbian and transgender employees. The nation's top court decided that the LGBT community should be covered under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The 6-3 decision was seen as a watershed victory for the LGBT community in the US, where same-sex marriage was legalised nationwide in 2015.
