Cape Town residents protest after shacks demolished
  • 4 years ago
Hangberg residents, in the fishing village of Hout Bay, started protesting after the City of Cape Town's law enforcement officers moved in to demolish illegally erected structures early this morning (June 11).

Jenaldo Phillips, who set up a shack to house 9 family members, was shot with rubber bullets by Cape Town law enforcement officers as he tried to prevent the eviction and protect his belongings.

The South African Police Service's public order policing unit were called in to quell the protest and provide support to the law enforcement officers.
