UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed regret that North Korea has cut off its hotlines with South Korea, warning that such channels "are necessary to avoid misunderstandings or miscalculations."
His spokesperson noted that Guterres hopes "all parties use the June anniversaries to redouble efforts to resume talks to achieve sustainable peace and complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."
The anniversaries he's referring to... are the June 12th Singapore summit between the leaders of North Korea and the U.S. and June 15th, the 20th anniversary of the first meeting between the leaders of two Koreas.
North Korea's move on Tuesday marked a new setback to the stalled efforts on the regime's denuclearization.
