Amphan in North Kolkata Streets ravaged severely I Cyclone Amphan I Cyclone Um-Phun 20 May 2020

Super Cyclone Amphan or Um-Phun - the name given by Thailand hit the coastal area of West Bengal District at Sundarban India. This is the severe Cyclone that the City of Kolkata witnessed after a century directly. Wind speed was 180 km per hour. With gusty air blown over the city of Kolkata at a speed of 135 Km per hour around 16-00 hours IST on 20 may 2020. When India is under Lock down phase to fight against the spread of Corona pandemic this Severe Super Cyclone appeared as a monster over the city. Such a type of super cyclone the then the city of Calcutta witbessed in the year 1737, 1864 and 1869 directly affected the city.
Locally it was afternoon when the cyclone reached the city. No one was able to assess the situation for next four to five hours except only listening sounds of wild wind unleashed on the glass panes of all windows. Overhead water tanks were blown away. Uprooted at least 8000 decade old giant trees in the city blocking all most all the major and roads of the city. Live wires had to be disconnected to save the citizens from being electrocuted. This video captures the devastation of the city roads, streets and avenues on the next day morning of 21 May 2020. Pitiful sights everywhere. No electricity, no net nothing. Thus the night of 20 May 2020 was a nightmare for all the residents of the city. It was like a twin threat from the Nature. One in the form of Corona and other in the form of Amphan or Um-phun super cyclone.
Worst affected place were the Sagar Island of the Sundarban area in the district of West Bengal where its land fall took place around noon. Those Largest Delta region as well as the Mangrove region in the World had been badly affected.
