COVID-19 vaccine race: Australian scientists one step closer in quest to find a cure for coronavirus

As researchers and vaccine makers across the world continue the hunt for a safe and effective vaccine against the novel coronavirus infection, scientists at the University of Queensland (UQ) are a step closer in the quest to find a cure for COVID-19.

Queensland researchers have signed a landmark partnership with pharmaceutical giant CSL - a major step forward in the global race for a COVID-19 jab.

The scientists hope to make up to 100 million doses of the vaccine by the end of next year.

The deal between Queensland researchers, CSL and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) occurs after the UQ vaccine produced promising results in the laboratory tests.

Early preclinical trials showed that UQ experimental COVID-19 vaccine produced high levels of antibodies that can neutralise the virus.
