Central American Country to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage The country began legally
recognizing same-sex
marriage on Tuesday. The President of Costa Rica,
Carlos Alvarado Quesada,
posted about the occasion on Twitter. Carlos Alvarado Quesada, via Twitter Many couples celebrated
the decision by
tying the knot overnight. In August of 2018, the country’s Constitutional
Court ruled laws preventing same-sex
marriage are unconstitutional. The legislature was given 18 months to enact marriage equality or have the ruling go into effect upon the deadline’s expiration.
