COVID-19 outbreak changes hiring process of South Korean conglomerates

The COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in significant changes to the hiring process of businesses in South Korea.
Many conglomerates in the nation have pushed back their hiring mass recruitment drives,... and some are even conducting their tests online,... as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced some of South Korea's major conglomerates to change their recruitment methods during the first half of the year.
"For the first time ever, South Korea's largest conglomerate, Samsung Group, will be holding its Global Samsung Aptitude Test online."
Tens of thousands of job applicants will sit the Aptitude Test, called GSAT, for the first half of this year, at home,... under remote monitoring.
Samsung held an online orientation on Tuesday, to check the connection and testing system. The tests will be held over two days, on May 30th and May 31st, to prevent any internet connection problems.
Samsung has also sent out a package containing a smartphone holder, so that applicants can be monitored while they take the test, and an ID card cover, to ensure that certain personal information isn't visible.
SK Group, held their aptitude test for new employees last Sunday.
The 'SK Competency Test' was carried out offline,... but under strict quarantine measures.
Job applicants had their temperatures checked, and were required to wear face masks and gloves.
But SK C&C says it will hold their tests online, on June 6th.
Meanwhile, Lotte's hiring test called the L-TAB will be taken both online and offline.
The Group's compatibility test will be taken online while the assessment of one's ability to carry out tasks will be conducted offline.
Posco also held its entrance exam in mid-May,... while complying with social distancing measures.
Meanwhile,... KT has ended conventional mass recruitment and shifted to hiring on-demand in March,... following Hyundai Motor Group which made the same transition early last year.
Only half of South Korea's top 10 conglomerates have carried out mass recruitment drives for the first half of this year due to the pandemic.
