ORIGAMI is a Japanese word witth a gather of two small Japanese words "ori, (comes from oru, means to fold something", and "kami, that means paper'. The exact origins of this ancient are unknown. But it has been traced as early as 6 BC to Buddhist monks, who used origami for ceremonial purposes. Basically Origami developed after the invention of paper. Paper invented in China & Origami invented in Japan. The first known written documentation of origami was not until 1797 in the book "Hiden Senbazuru Orikata" (The Secret of Folding Thousand Crane Folding).
Origami is good for everyone, it develops eye & hand co-ordination, sequencing skills, maths reasoning, spatial skills, memory, but also patenience and attention skills. Origami allows us to develop fine motor skills and mental concentration. All of this combined stimulates the brain, especially when both hands are being use at same time.
Origami is an ancient, peaceful craft. It is not just for children and can also be used as a way to enhance mindfulness for all age of people.
Origami "is a peaceful hobby, it is a beautiful art, a paper craft, and a meditation - all in one.
Origami can give children's a great introduction to many mathematical concepts. Transforming a flat piece of paper into a dimensional object, helps to build spatial awareness and learn about geometry. When the paper is folded, shapes are seen - squares, triangles, rectangles and rhombuses. Fractions and symmetry are also experienced when the paper is folded in half and folds made on one side are repeated on another. Following the instructions to create something teaches sequencing skills. Patterning can also be discovered and learned.
Skills of concentration, attention, persistence and self evaluation can be developed by making Origami. Origami gives us the opportunity to work through a problem, evaluate when things go wrong (this can be easily seen when mistakes are made in folding!) and have the persistence to keep going and work through the frustration of mistakes.
So, there are so many reason that, origami is used as a mind therapy. When our mind is in stress, can not take load of pressure, that time making something with paper, helps us to reduse stresses & make our brain reactive.
In my videos, I always try to make kids friendly origami. I always try to avoid harmful ingredients like: glue, scissor, anti-cutter.
