NATO Clears Historical Ordnance from along French Coast
  • 4 years ago
While we focus on our common fight against COVID-19, NATO’s ability to conduct operations has not been undermined. Our forces remain ready, and our crucial work goes on.

Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One (SNMCMG1) recently conducted a historical ordnance disposal (HOD) operation along the north coast of France. The operation ran between March 23 and April 5 in the area of Le Tréport in Normandy, France.

In total, six ships from six different nations participated in the operation, searching an area of 20.3 square nautical miles and disposing of eight historical ordnances. The operation identified 94 underwater objects in total, which were examined up close by underwater remotely controlled vehicles or divers. Footage includes shots of mine detonations and underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) footage shot from Dutch ship HNLMS Willemstad
