Keystone Cameras produces for a Japanese company 1989

  • hace 4 años
Keystone Cameras has been manufacturing cameras for 70 years; Last year the New Jersey-based company was on the verge of bankruptcy, the victim of a saturation of its products, but last month the situation changed considerably when Keystone made a deal to manufacture cameras for the Konica company in Japan, it is the first and only time in the history of the industry that an American firm produces cameras for a Japanese company. Imports make up half of all cameras sold in the United States at $ 875 million per year, while North American exports are only $ 58 million. Even Kodak and Polaroid do much of their manufacturing overseas, but a cheaper workforce and a lower dollar could help balance those numbers. Japan has dominated the North American market for more than two decades, now Keystone hopes that when the Japanese buy cameras they will see the legend made in the United States.
