A elephant camp in Thailand has opened a livestream performance to allow tourists to watch their shows from home while they are closed in the coronavirus pandemic.

The Lanna elephant centre in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, initiated the virtual tour for the viewers to visit the camp online.

Footage from last Sunday (17/05) afternoon shows the camp staff holding the livestreaming equipment including mobile phone, selfie stick and headset.

The camp virtual tour is free but the tourists will have an option to donate money for the jumbos.

Those who donate 1,500THB (38GBP) will be able to have a 15 minutes long video call with the elephants while donations of more than 3,000THB (77GBP) will receive 30 minutes long call.

The camp's owner Witthaya Pongsiri said the program draw many attention from the tourists who are missing seeing the jumbos.

He said: "We have had more than 100 people join in the online shows so far since the start of the program two months ago. There are all types of tourists including private, couples, and family groups.

"I think that the pandemic has caused stress toward the people who have to stay home and they feel longing for travelling and this program is helping them.

"The income from the program is not as much as the income when we were fully operated but it is better than nothing."
