Animal lovers and rescue organisations are fanning out across India to feed the millions of hungry and thirsty animals living on deserted streets during the weeks-long lockdown to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Used to living off scraps from hotels, restaurants, roadside stalls and even rubbish the roughly 30 million stray dogs and five million stray cows were suddenly left without food and water as people withdrew into their homes.
