Vet in India guides operation on two-month-old puppy in Malaysia via livestream

Surgeons at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) in Malaysia performed a complicated thoracic surgery on a two-month-old puppy.

Dr Shibu Sulaiman of Penang Veterinary Hospital in Malaysia received a patient, an eight-week-old Miniature Pinscher weighing only 800 grams.

The pup suffered from a rare condition of vascular ring anomaly, which could be corrected only through a complicated thoracic surgery.

But as the Malaysian doctors expressed their apprehension given the size of the animal, Dr Shibu approached Dr Sooryadas S, Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary and Animal Science in India.

As Dr Sooryadas gave step-by-step guidance via a livestream, Dr Shibu carried out the procedure, saving the pup's life.

Hospital head Dr. Bipin K C said: “It was a challenge and we are happy we could save the pup's life.”

Vascular ring anomaly is life-threatening as food gets stuck in oesophagus triggering regurgitation.

This footage was filmed on April 30.
