Streaming Movies
Can Now Win Oscars The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences’ board of governors met over Zoom
to discuss the changes, according to
‘The Hollywood Reporter.’ Direct-to-streaming movies will now qualify as
long as they are available on the voting body’s
Academy Screening Room streaming service. Films will no longer be required
to have a one-week theatrical
run in Los Angeles. Films may now also have week-long
runs in New York, San Francisco,
Chicago, Miami and Atlanta. The 93rd Academy Awards are set
to take place February 27, 2021.
