A stray kitten was rescued after spending the night stuck in an 11ft deep drainpipe behind an apartment's kitchen wall.

The moggy was heard making faint crying sounds by resident Rattacha at her home in Samut Sakhon, central Thailand on April 21.

It is believed to have crawled into a drain on the roof of the building before falling into the pipe.

Rattacha said she tried many ways to take the poor cat out of the narrow PVC pipe but to no avail so she decided to ask for the help of rescuers.

Emergency units rushed to the house with cutting equipment to smash through the cement wall and reach into the water drain. They then drilled several small holes to find the exact spot where the cat is stuck.

Footage shows the rescuers carefully cutting the PVC tube before the scared cat is finally taken out - with a team of six fire and rescue volunteers spending more than an hour on the task.

Permsab Poonsin, one of rescue team, said: "The little voice disappeared for a moment, so we thought that the kitten might be dead. We were hopeful when we finally heard the kitten scream again.

"We are happy that we saved one life, even if it was just only a little cat. We believe every single life is valuable."

Rattacha said she had no idea where the homeless kitten came from and how it got there.

She said: "I am so pleased that the kitten was rescued. I want to thank all the volunteers for extending their hands. The kitty has now been adopted by my neighbour who named her Dusty."

Dusty has recovered from the ordeal and is now being raised as a pet.
