In some parts of Europe, the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak seems to have passed.
Countries in the region are now prioritizing reviving the economy with loosened quarantine measures. Small businesses are beginning to reopen and schools are readying themselves to welcome students back into the classroom again.
Our Kim Do-yeon has the details. With some parts of Europe seeing a decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases, reviving the economy is the number one priority.
In Germany, state leaders agreed to reopen shops and businesses of less than 800 square meters. Public transportation is also back up and running.
Its government, though, has advised caution.
"We have to wear masks ourselves and so do the customers. And only a certain amount of people can be in the shop at a time."
Neighboring country, Austria, will also continue to loosen its current measures throughout the next month due to what its health minister is calling a "significantly positive trend".
While some shops and businesses are operating already, by May 15th restaurants and religious institutions can reopen provided that people wear masks.
The two countries are also prioritizing education.
In Germany, schools will reopen in two weeks while Austria announced it plans to have students back in classrooms soon.
"From May 4th, preparations will be underway for high school final exams. The goal is that from May 15th, schools can reopen for other years step-by-step."
Meanwhile, Denmark opened kindergartens and elementary schools a week ago.
And the governments of France and the Netherlands also announced they will welcome students back by mid-May.
