Anand Singh Bisht served as a Ranger in the Forest Department. After retiring from service, he also handled transport. Since retirement, he was residing in his native village Panchur in Yamkeshwar in Uttarakhand. He is survived by his wife Savitri Devi along with four sons and three daughters. Elder among sons is Mahendra, second is Yogi Aditya Nath (Ajay Singh Bisht), third son is Shailendra Mohan and fourth is Mahendra. Names of daughters are Pushpa Devi, Kaushalya Devi, Shashi Devi. Yogi's elder brother Gaurav says that Adityanath is second among four brothers and three sisters. Two of his brothers work in the college, while one brother is a Subedar in the Army's Garhwal Regiment. Adityanath left the family at the age of 21 and came to Gorakhpur. His father had come from a village in Uttarakhand 24 years ago to convince his son to initiate retirement, but had to return empty-handed.
