Hong Kong bookseller Lam Wing-kee, who said he was kidnapped by Chinese agents in 2015 for selling banned books across the border, was attacked by a man with red paint in Taiwan on April 21, days before he was set to open a new bookshop in Taipei. The 64-year-old left Hong Kong for Taiwan in April, 2019 after the city proposed a law that would have allowed extradition to mainland China.
