Land O'Lakes Removes
Native American Woman in Logo The "butter maiden" has been on
the Minnesota-based company's products since 1928. Mia, the fictional character,
has changed her look a few
times over the years. She was previously shown
kneeling with butter in her hands or
as a close up of just her head and shoulders. She will now be replaced
by a body of water and trees. Mia's look has been criticized as being racist,
but Land O'Lakes did not say if that
factored into their decision. North Dakota Rep. Ruth Buffalo
applauded the move. North Dakota
