As COVID-19 cases continue to climb in the U.S. the country's weekly jobless claims hit over five million last week alone,... wiping out all the jobs created since the Great Recession in just a month.
The U.S. Labor Department reports 5-point-2 million Americans filed for unemployment insurance in the week that ended April 11th,... bringing the total to more than 22-million, a record high for a four-week period.
However, the department said claims slowed slightly from the week before,... when the number was 6-point-6 million.
On top of the record unemployment,... consumer sentiment in the U.S. also dropped, with retail sales tumbling to historic lows and factory output slumping the most since 1946.
