To help households get through these trying times, the South Korean government has pledged an additional supplementary budget worth more than six billion U.S. dollars.
This is the second extra budget of its kind this year, financed not through debt but by rearranging the government's spending plans.
Around eight hundred dollars will be provided to households of four or more in the lower 70 percent of incomes.
Eligibility will be determined based on the state health insurance premiums households paid in March.
This is expected to help nearly 15 million households.
If approved, the extra budget will be the fifth under the Moon administration.
