Around 51,000 Workers The process will begin this
Sunday for some full-time workers
and almost all part-time workers. In a press release, Best Buy said health benefits
will be given to furloughed workers
for three months. CNBC reports that payment is continuing for
82 percent of Best Buy's full-time store staff. The electronics retailer has been
shut down since late March, only
offering curbside pickup. Despite the closings, sales are still strong
and workers continue to be paid. According to CEO Corie Barry, Best Buy's
online sales have jumped over 250 percent. Top executives will also take pay cuts, with
Barry receiving 50 percent of her normal salary. For full and part-time workers who
have been with Best Buy over a year, the chain said it will start a
$10 million employee assistance fund.
