The choir sings the gospel acclamation and the video moves to the song, “For Every Mountain,” with lyrics by Kurt Carr. Mr. Carr released the song in 1997.
The day celebrating the life of Saint Juan Martin de Porres Velázquez is November 3. He was a lay brother for the Dominicans of the Holy Rosary Priory in Lima, Peru at a time when persons of African-Native-American descent were barred from becoming members of religious orders. As a lay brother, Martin fed 160 poor persons every day, and distributed large sums of money every week to the indigent. Along with his daily work in the kitchen, laundry and infirmary, Martin's life is said to have reflected extraordinary gifts of the Holy Spirit: ecstasies that lifted him into the air, light filling the room where he prayed, bilocation, miraculous knowledge, instantaneous cures and a remarkable rapport with animals. He founded a residence for orphans and a children’s hospital in the city of Lima. He is the patron saint of mixed-race people, barbers, innkeepers, public health workers, and all those seeking racial harmony.
The lyrics of, “For Every Mountain,” are as follows:
I've got so much to thank God for So many wonderful blessings and so many open doors A brand new mercy Along with each new day That's why I praise You And for this I give You praise
For waking me up this morning That's why I praise You For starting me on my way That's why I praise You For letting me see the sunshine of a brand new day A brand new mercy along with each new day That's why I praise You For this I give You praise
You're Jehovah Jireh That's why I praise You You've been my provider That's why I praise You So many times You met my need, So many times You rescued me That's why I praise You I wanna thank You for the blessings You give to me each day That's why I praise You For this I give You praise
For every mountain You brought me over For every trial you've seen me through For every blessing Hallelujah, for this I give You praise
